NO LONGER
The mission of Firestation #3 is to create a Houston-based platform for interactive music, video, performance, and installation work. Events are open to the general public and through this effort we hope to create a forum for professionals, amateurs, fans, and friends to meet, to exchange ideas and enjoy the solace of creativity.
Fire Station #3 was born of a dream to congregate the artistic community from a perspective that has seemed implicitly unavailable to emerging artists. With the bias of a long string of history from which confining structures have developed, the emerging artist has little freedom to stray from institutional guideposts while pursuing artistic endeavors. At Fire Station #3, the promise of a young artist’s disorganized vision is recognized as a virtue from which the freshest and most provocative ideas can materialize. The gallery has just recently begun testing the waters in search of what it hopes will be a successfully open-ended community interested in plowing past the political and institutional constraints of contemporary art. Our vision may seem overcritical of existing superstructures that cultivate expressive thought, but only the opportunity to expand the current notional direction will allow us to understand the validity of our efforts. The gallery is the philanthropic product of three artist and humanitarians who have recently submerged into Houston’s fecund art community. We welcome the interest of anyone who shares our fantastic views of this growing community and challenge all others to begin their own reinterpretation of what is and what has been.
