Bio:
Dave Griffiths is an filmmaker & artist based in Manchester. Dave's films and video installations dwell on physical or imaginary borders within media spaces and forms. He uses video and sonic material, often arising from laborious search or unstable technical methods, to devise encounters between media apparatus and the inscription of accidental, surplus or abandoned codes. Dave's "close-up epics" touch on illusions of security and perfection that surround technologies, and attempt to commemorate their temporary structures. Dave Griffiths has exhibited internationally since 2002 in a variety of festivals, conferences, galleries, micro-cinemas and other temporary artist-run spaces. In 2003 along with Nick Jordan , Dave curated and published the Codec/x DVD of video and sonic collaborations from Manchester that toured internationally. He teaches video practice in north-west England, and is currently attempting to produce film projects using mobile-media technology, interactive systems, and network-responsive data visualisation. In 2004 Dave helped to develop the Purescreen artist's video screenings & publications for Castlefield Gallery, Manchester. Dave is interested in testing the borders of digitisation by using deliberately laborious or unstable methods. His videos and installations intend to play with notions of perfection, redundancy and structure surrounding media technology. As a founder of the Pharmakon collective in 2001, he has attempted to activate interdisciplinary working processes to distribute artist’s video and sound. His videos - and collaborations with Nick Jordan, Unplugboy, Lord Mongo, DOS and Illuminati - have screened at events in UK, Holland, USA, Canada, Thailand and Australia. Dave is co-curator of the CODEC/X touring programme, and works as a lecturer in film and video at East Lancashire Institute of Higher Education.
