Bio:
Symbols are the language of the mind and are used to convey realities, which cannot be expressed directly. They evoke emotional responses connecting different levels of consciousness within our minds, transcending the barriers of traditional language that is spoken. In relation to filmmaking, this school of thought fuels my passion to take film back to its roots and original art form; the art of the moving image. Stylistically my work has a grittiness and an edge that’s a far cry from stereotypical “spiritual” images. The work examines the soul’s light to dark spectrum and the duality of existence, which can result in vivid, visceral and sometimes haunting cinematic experiences for the viewer. I am an award winning Writer/Director/Producer and Actress. Filmmaking is an up-close and personal experience for me, bordering on performance art. For the last 14 years, I have been making short films and have just recently completed my first feature film entitled, Godhead. My work has screened across the United States and abroad, and has been featured at the Independent Feature Film Market, Independent Exposure, Newfilmmakers/NYC, Gen Art, Deep Ellum, Chicago Art Institute and the Kansas City Filmmakers Jubilee. My company, Blurgirl Productions, works in collaborative form with visual artists, photographers, poets, writers and musicians. Each artist exercises his own medium -- at times asked to step outside of it and explore another. Poets may work on concepts for set design, photographers may write. In this realm, the boundaries of the screen form a canvas for visual poetry, engaging the viewer in a sensory experience and encouraging the imagination to evolve beyond the known.
