Bio:
Sandro Del Rosario is from Pescara, Italy and, after receiving his BFA in Graphic Design from I.S.I.A., Urbino, worked as a graphic and interactive designer in Bologna, Milan, and Florence. In 1998, Sandro was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and received his MFA in Film/Video with an emphasis in “Experimental Animation” from the California Institute of Arts in Valencia, CA. His 16mm, animated film “L.City” has been exhibited worldwide, including the MOMA, New York (2006), the London Film Festival (2004), and the Annecy Animation Festival (2002), and it’s published in DVD collection by Rattapallax. Awards include a Jury Award for Best Italian Short at Imaginale, Goethe Institute – Rome 2004, first prize Sonar Film Festival and La Tarantola Festival in Italy, the Kodak Prize for Best Cinematography at Siena International Film Festival and JuryAward at NYExpo Film Festival in 2003. In 2003, Sandro was also selected as a participant for the Berlinale Talent Campus in Berlin and he began to work on a new film in 2005, thanks to a Fellowship from the Bogliasco Foundation. Since then he has been hosted with his work in progress from “Lo Sguardo Italiano” (The Italian Gaze) twice at the prestigious McDowell Colony, NH (2005, 2007), twice at Yaddo, NY (2006), at Djerassi, CA (2007), and back at Bogliasco, Italy (2007). “Lo Sguardo Italiano” is an experimental 16mm animation film-in-progress that explores cultural identity and memory, and his currently fiscally sponsored by the New York Foundation for the Arts. Since June 2006, Sandro has been engaged in a series of workshops as a Visiting Artist at community-based arts organizations across the US. At Platteforum in Denver, in the Town of Breckenridge, Colorado, and in Peterborough, New Hampshire, Sandro worked with students to create experimental animated films about their home, place and cultural identity. His video-installation work is currently represented by Eileen Braziel Fine Art, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Filmography/Awards Info: 2002 L.City, 16mm, b/w, 8min.
