Bio:
Michiel van Bakel (1966) lives and works in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Trained as a visual artist at the art academy in Arnhem. He started with studies in astronomy and psychology, but chose for the plastic arts. A fascination for science and technology is still visible in his works. Kicking off as a classical sculptor, working with steel, bronze and plastics, in recent years his focus has shifted more to the multi-media- (installations) and video-range. A recurrent theme in his work is the Eros-Thanatos relationship between man and technology.
