Bio:
Kathryn Ramey is a Philadelphia based filmmaker, teacher and anthropologist in training and has been making moving images for the last fifteen years. Her work ranges from 16mm experimental pieces to digital video documentary and anthropological projects and has screened at numerous film festivals, among them: Philadelphia’s festival of Independents, the Göettingen International Ethnographic Film Festival, Ann Arbor International Film Festival, Athens International Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, MIX International Film Festival, and the Telluride International Experimental Film Festival. Her 16mm film Razed by Wolves was awarded best experimental film at the Athens film festival in 1999 and her most recent work ENDLESS PRESENT: BIOGRAPHY OF AN UNKNOWN FILMMAKER, a film by Cornealius Thistle was given an honorable mention at this year’s Ann Arbor Film Festival. She has a Masters of Fine Arts from Temple University’s Film and Media Arts department and is a PhD candidate in the department of anthropology there. She has taught film, film theory and anthropology at University of the Arts, Temple University and Tyler School of the Arts. She is currently the recipient of a Social Science Research Council fellowship in Art and Society for her PhD dissertation: “Between Art, Industry and Academia: The Fragile Balancing Act of the Film Avant-Garde."
