Bio:
I grew up in the suburbs of Detroit. While I was a student at Eastern Michigan University, I developed a great interest in filmmaking. I was also very drawn to photography, and writing (short fiction). The formalistic connections between film, photography, and fiction writing, were very interesting to me, and I enjoyed working across mediums to explore connecting themes. While at EMU, I produced two 16mm short films, entitled "One" and "Section G1." In 1997, I graduated from EMU with a major in film and a double minor in photography and creative writing. I then went on to study film at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. During this time, I produced my first short documentary, entitled "Wisdom Teeth." Up to this point, I had primarily been working in narrative. In November of 2001, I completed my graduate thesis, an experimental documentary entitled "The Deer and the Antelope." In the spring of 2002, while teaching at UWM, I made a film entitled "My Neighbor" with one of my classes. I am currently working on a new project, an experimental documentary about the city of Detroit. I teach film and video production at three institutions in Detroit: Wayne State University, the College for Creative Studies and the Detroit Film Center. THE DEER AND THE ANTELOPE was awarded "Best Experimental" at the Wisconsin Film Festival, "Best Experimental" at the Marin County Film Festival, and "Director's Choice" at the NextFrame International Film Festival. It was also screened at the Athens International Film and Video Festival, the Portland Documentary & Experimental Film Festival, as well as receiving a "Certificate of Merit" from the 38th Chicago International Film Festival.
