Bio:
Writer/Director Ben Hayflick recently graduated with an MFA in Film from Columbia University. A native of Ridgewood, New Jersey, Ben's first experiences with filmmaking date to his childhood, when he made use of a Ricoh camcorder and edited in-camera. Always fascinated with character, he earned his undergraduate degree in Social Psychology and Personality Theory from the University of Pennsylvania. His interest in filmmaking took shape when he attended an intensive program at the New York Film Academy, where he shot 16mm films and cut on Steenbeck flatbeds. Ben's feature screenplay "The Haleman Limit" won the Alfred P. Sloan Screenwriting Award, and was a finalist for the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Grant. His thesis film "Pedalfoot" was Faculty Selects at the 2005 Columbia University Film Festival, and won the Tribeca Entertainment Outstanding Achievement in Screenwriting Award. "Pedalfoot," starring Tom Noonan and Karen Ziemba, is an Official Selection at the upcoming Rome Film Festival and has played at numerous festivals around the world, including the IFP Market, Nashville Film Festival and Palm Springs International Film Festival. Ben's previous shorts "The Great Movers of Dust" and "Camille" played at many international festivals, including Denver International Film Festival, Maryland Film Festival, Ohio Independent Film Festival, and Greenwich Film Festival. "Camille" won a Gold Remi at Houston International Film Festival and was a semi-finalist at the Angelus Awards. Ben has written coverage for the Sundance Screenwriter's Lab, New Line Cinema, and Creative Artists Agency. He is repped by Joan Scott and Marti Blumenthal, of Ampersand Management Group.
