Bio:
Kristiina Szabo’s flair for the unpredictable is out in full force on her first completed film, Dragonfly. This labor of love made an impressive debut on the film-festival circuit, winning her the Vision Award for Best Direction at the Second Annual Vancouver Videopoem Festival. In addition, Dragonfly received the William F. White Award and was nominated for the Norman Jewison Filmmaker Award at the university where majority of the production took place. Not only an accomplished director, Szabo has also amassed a small but impressive list of credits as an up-and-coming cinematographer. Her latest project, a music video for Juno-nominated hip hop artists Brassmunk, received heavy rotation when it aired on Canada’s music television station, MuchMusic, this past year. In between major projects, Szabo continues to flex her creative muscles by painting and directing no-budget videos. Whether she is working with crayon, finger-paints or film, for Kristiina, the rules of making art always remain the same: keep it raw, keep it real, and always speak from the heart.
