Bio:

John Geary was born in Atlantic City, NJ. Where he was raised with the legend of the “Jersey Devil”, a creature who lived in the dense Pine Barrens there. While he attended Holy Spirit High School, he discovered punk rock and skateboarding. John quit the varsity tennis team and become a sponsored skater, honoring his creative urges.
John went on to attend the Philadelphia College of Art where he studied fine art, majoring in sculpture. He wanted to bring the energy of skateboarding to his art projects. While there he experimented with LSD, which had a profound effect on his work. John remained in Philadelphia for eight years, exhibiting his art in every major venue in the city.
In 1993, John Geary moved to Los Angeles to attend graduate school at UCLA, where he worked with Chris Burden and Paul McCarthy, among others. There he drew inspiration from the culture of LA and the film industry, branching out into other media including performance and video.
“Devil Tour ’94” was made while john was a graduate student at UCLA.
John Geary lives and works in Los Angeles. His latest project is a series of charcoal drawings accompanied by a video entitled “Shooting Gorillas in the Zoo.”
