JURY: ADDICTIVE TV

2006 has been a very busy year for Microcinema International's international touring festival! Independent Exposure has screed at film festivals and microcinemas across the country and members of the microcinema curatorial team have participated in lectures programs and panel discussions. In May the San Francisco International Film Festival screened a version of our Mobile Exposure program as part of their new KinoTek festival which explores new media technologies. Four Independent Exposure programs were screened earlier this summer at the "Images and Views of the Alternative Cinema Festival" in Nicosia, Cyprus. We have also been on panel discussions at the San Francisco Lesbian and Gay Film Festival as well as South by Southwest in Austin. In February, Microcinema International performed as a VJ alongside Grand Master Flash at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston for the MFAH/Starbucks "Beats of Basquiat" series. Not only have all of these exciting events and others kept us very busy, but with over 700 submissions that came in from our 2006 Call for Works, we had our hands full in reviewing and selecting films for the 2006 seasonWe curated seven programs for 2006 - each one an important showcase for contemporary, progressive, artistic, and culturally relevant short films and videos. Each program was curated to present a diverse an eclectic set of works in an intentional context. All of the shows are meant to challenge, intrigue, surprise, and most importantly - to entertain. If our experiences over the last ten years hold true for this year, we know that you will love some of the works - and love some of the others a bit less. But we hope that you walk away from the shows with a better appreciation of the depth of creativity that exists in the moving images arts. This is what motivates us. Foreign cinema
As always we spend a lot of time to make sure that our shows make their way ot screens in hard to find places. Our curatorial aesthetic is further supported by the presentation of the Independent Exposure series in non-traditional venues or "microcinemas" such as galleries, cafes, bars, nightclubs, outdoors, and other alternative spaces that support the independent arts. To date, Independent Exposure has been presented hundreds of times in 43 countries plus Palestine and Antarctica and a base camp on Mt. Everest. See our continually-updated screening schedule here.
Congratulations! This year our judge, Addictive TV (pictured above), visited San Francisco to view over 100 moving image artists shorts and selected the three prize winners below. Congratulations! Addictive TV also selected their "favorites" and these are included in a special program that will be presented at our awards screening in San Francisco as well as to microcinemas, festivals, museums and universities around the US, Europe, Asia, South America, Africa and the Middle East. This program, Independent Exposure 2006 - Addictive TV Best of 2006 Edition will also be made into a DVD that will be sold in our online DVD store and distributed by Microcinema International Distribution. For 2007 we expect an even more amazing year. Panasonic Broadcast once again is our primary partner and is supporting us in our mission to seek out and present contemporary moving image artists from around the world. Our 2007 Call For Works will be out shortly so stay tuned for announcements about prizes and our new juror.
Thank You We would like to thank Panasonic Broadcast for its support of the 2006 season. We would also like to thank Hannspree USA. Finally, we thank all of the artists who took the time to submit their work to us. It is because of the creativity and passion of moving image artists like you that Independent Exposure was formed and exists today. So keep sending us your work! |
