The DVD release, EYESHIFT (un regard en mouvement) is a tribute to the video artist and filmmaker Pierre-Yves Cruaud, representing a new generation of experimental cinema, which fuses the aesthetics of traditional film-based photography with that of digital video technology. On this DVD Pierre-Yves presents 7 of his short films, a bonus video made for the DVD, an installation Passages, a commentary by the artist, as well as a bio and filmography. Pierre-Yves Cruaud has been present on the international visual art and film festival circuit for a number of years now. His work has received numerous awards and special mentions from around the world including the award for best creation (Grand Prix de la Création) at the Vidéoformes festival in Clermont-Ferrand (France), the experimental film prize at the Cabbagetown (Canada) Film Festival and more recently the award for Best video art production at the Asolo Art Film Festival (Italy). PIERRE-YVES CRUAUD’S aims to tackle issues pertaining to our contemporary world: False Solitude (Fausse Solitude) takes a look at the agonizing speed of city life; the video Silence in Motion (Le silence est en marche) brings into question the boundaries of our existence, leaving little room for personal fulfilment; The Hotel of Reproducible Lives (L’hôtel des vies reproductibles) puts into perspective global telesurveillance systems that break the barriers between private and public life; In Construction (En travaux) follows the edification of Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia in Barcelona by adopting similar construction methods in the video editing process. Other films like Living Lights (Vivantes lueurs), Stoned Glaze (Regard de pierre) or Images (Images) touches on more abstract topics and examines the fragility and poetry of images. Pierre-Yves, in his films, reveals to us the ephemeral character of images impossible to capture in a fixed image. In his work, Pierre-Yves Cruaud, manipulates the limits between the interior and the exterior. He decomposes the image, measures its speed, and brings us to its infinite reproducibility back to its form as a unique sample. He transmits the image by transforming it. Its aesthetic qualities become lucid and the rigidity of its structure makes us see a new way of being in the image.
