A series of 8 of moving visual compositions created by video artist Scott Pagano to accompany the music of the Italian electronic music duo Rolf & Fonky (Mirco Uguccioni & Maurizio Ottavi). The collaboration began in early 2004 when producer Alessandro Vaccaro discovered Pagano's work via the acclaimed Reline DVD and contacted him to create a composition to synchronize with one of Rolf & Fonky's recent musical compositions. It was a fortuitous moment as the first piece "Geometry" led to a year long effort to design meticulously constructed abstract moving artworks, pushing the boundaries of the audio-visual composition and process exploration. Using a mix of 3D and algorithmic elements Pagano created a lush future-space for the viewer to explore as elements come in and out of focus and stack upon each other to create at times an unexpectedly organic environment out of cold "perfect" forms. Emerging from a hypersimplified entrance, this work grows exponentially, engaging the viewer through a graphic narrative of form, color palette, light, and density.

Software has broken the concept of video as a flowing unity, transforming it in a an artificial visual ecosystem. Scott Pagano, curator of the Reline dvd series is the director of this video collection made with the Rolf & Fonky techno duo. In every video emerges his own attitude: structuring a complex and dynamic mixture of sources. Not a simple merging, but a detailed architecture, where the single images are dissected and dynamically recombinated. The intertwining of visual levels enable a new sensation of depth on bidimensional screens. This remarkable aim is reached through a constant hiding and / or disveiling of different elements, that highlight for a while or quickly moves in the background database/shadows. Some of the oneiric plots matches perfectly the techno patterns of the music. This is enhancing the director's alchemy that intersects compatible moving layers, always leaving recognizable traces of the elements involved. His unique software engine support him in being an architect of video, with the pure skills of enabling a tangible harmony in these resulting dancing parts of the screen, moving in different directions. |
