Microcinema presents “Independent Exposure September 2002 Edition.”
This 64 minutes compilation of short films from around the world is contemplative and political in an understated way. “Summer Vacation” by Mark O’Connell of Seattle, and “Untitled” by Brett Simon all have subtle political agendas, dealing with 9/11.
“Flee” by Quebecoise Tamara Taddeo is a compelling, poetic, and beautifully- shot expose on the human condition. The metaphoric “Postcard to Oz” by professor Richard Koenig is about longing, duplicity, and loss: wish you were here.
“Observatory” by Ryan O’Connor of Australia is a funny, kind of hip, understated commentary on Humanity. “Vision Test” by returning Independent Exposure filmmaker Wes Kim (Profiles in Science) has a slight political agenda which is appropriate for September 2002.
The compilation is rounded out with a music video called “Twirl Girl” by Trisha van Heusen and two striking pieces: Richard Wilson's Blues, an eccentric film which is beyond description - but has a nice literary element to it and is strongly thought provoking; and “Icarus of Pittsburg” by Kirk Hostetter and Evan Mather –
an exploration of human identity with a hint of underlying patriotism in the subject matter -football - which is appropriate for autumn.
