Zoetrobics

Zoetrobics is a choreography of graphics in space and time accompanied by an original score composed by Stephen Webber of the Berklee College of Music and recorded under Webber's direction at Skywalker Sound. The animation is by Ed Counts, Professor of Instructional Technology at the University of Tennessee. The pace of the movie is based on continuous 12 drawing sequences simulating a zoetrope. The intention of the collaborators was to create two works of art, music and animation – that reinforce rather than illustrate one another. In that sense the effect is that one “sees” the music and “hears” the images.

Ed Counts has produced several independent animated films that have been aired on SHOWTIME, The Movie Channel, and several other channels. As a professor of instructional technology at the University of Tennessee, he is interested in the creative and expressive potential of digital technologies in support of teaching and learning from K-12 to graduate school. He is author of Multimedia Design and Production for Students and Teachers published by Allyn & Bacon. |
Music:
Stephen Webber is an Emmy winning composer and professor of Music Production and Engineering at Berklee College of Music. He has produced, engineered, or played on upwards of 100 albums, including Shekinah: 13 Voices, a compilation of Berklee female singer-songwriters released on Epic records, and the Vital Vinyl series of Tools for DJs.
Webber is the author of Turntable Technique: The Art of the DJ, a ground breaking book on playing the turntable as a musical instrument. He has also written extensively for Mix Magazine, Electronic Musician, Audio Media and Pro Sound News.
Stephen composed & conducted music for the award winning animated film Zoetrobics at Lucasfilm's Skywalker Ranch, and has composed music for dozens of nationally -broadcast television programs and feature films.
