In the film, “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, a car breaks down beginning the folly of the characters. The sickness of the automobile leads to the sickness of the humans. Within my video, “Purveyor Concrete”, I re-shot scenes onto super 8 from “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” of a female character running or falling, manipulating it along with my own digital video footage and found super 8 footage to create the sensation of the human and animal running and dying along with and in competition with the mechanical. Inspired by and in critique of the ideas of Futurist texts, I wish to highlight the resistance and integration of the human with the mechanical, the horrors of death by machine and the fetishism of speed.
