Set to the music of Gustav Holst’s “Mars: Bringer of War,” an iconic humanoid figure is carved out of a stump, replicated, and manipulated across various time-lapsed regions. After the main credits (which occur in the middle of the film), all hell breaks loose involving an enormous steel sphere, a clear-cut forest and water-skis, before Populi finally ends where it began, with a solitary tree stump ready to be carved…
