Chronic is an experimental dance film that explores body machine ideas. It is inspired by the work of Etienne-Jules Marey and Eadweard Muybridge and other photographic pioneers who studied motion with photography before the advent of motion picture cameras. The new dance movements that were created for this film have rhythmical parallels to Marey and Muybridge's work. Their studies uncovered truths that had never before been known. The truths they were seeking were scientific in nature, but much more can be gathered from these studies than just measurements and frequencies. Their photographs broke down the most rapid and complicated movements into visible increments and left nothing to be hidden by the limitations of our perception. The visual aspect of the film was made using a photocopier which creates a high contrast low-res look that refers to the developing technologies used by the pioneers of the moving image.
