Description:
ndie Memphis began in 1997 as the Memphis Independent Film Festival. Its purpose was to showcase regional films and filmmakers and help develop the independent film community of Memphis. The film festival, with a name change to Indie Memphis Film Festival two years ago, now has a permanent home at Muvico theaters in downtown Memphis. “The Soul of Southern Film” is the nation’s only film festival focused on film as a Southern art form. We exclusively show films about the South, made in the South, and produced by Southern filmmakers (including a showcase dedicated to homegrown talent–Memphis filmmakers.) With its permanent location downtown, Indie Memphis will become a destination for filmmakers and moviegoers from around the world. This will greatly increase the synergy between regional culture, downtown development, and the arts community. Besides this annual festival, Delta Axis has an ongoing relationship with Muvico Inc. This includes showcasing film events such as the University of Memphis Student Film Festival, and an ongoing arts film series.
